Great to see this level of tech detail in a post. Agree on some points: provider and model lock in are definitely mostly avoidable treating both human readable and AI optimized data files as primitives.

thanks! How is your current setup? Are you using the code tools at all?

I live in Claude Code :) Use it ofc for dev work and also over the last year set it up so anything I used to do in Chat or Cowork got more powerful versions I can run all from Claude Code CLI or on the web. Shipping code while agents answer my email, tell me what newsletters are worth my time today, and auto post new content to LinkedIn (for example) pretty rad

Wow I see you are next level! That sounds very impressive, you should be the one writing about these things :D Are you an OG developer or self thought?

Great article. I actually had Codex as standard for most work but now with 4.8 out I actually have to say I've swung the other way for the first time in ages... though I'm actually finding small practical tasks are done better with gemini flash 3.5 (e.g. creating scripts, small tests, etc.).

Wow you are the first person in a long time that I met that has Codex first! I have to admit I completely forgot about Gemini for a while but yesterday I maxed out my subscription after seeing your comment :) thanks for that!

Are you also actively using Claude? Since this morning I am experiencing again some very weird limit usage behavior..

Glad to hear you’re trying! Gemini has definitely got it’s quirks and definitely not the mainstay but feels like the kind of shift Google may be trying to make towards being a specialist in tool use as it’s so quick. I am actively using Claude but to be honest the speed in general has definitely been SO slow. (Might be infecting my ability to reply haha)
